There are four main safety checks all static caravan holiday home owners & operators need to be aware of:
We are here to guide you through the requirements of all these safety tests, what you need to do, when, and why.
The legal requirements for each type of safety test can be dependent on the type of usage i.e. if the static caravan holiday home is used just for personal use or being rented out. Renting to friends and family would be considered ‘renting’ (landlord’s duties) under safety regulations. Have a look in our specific sections on gas and electric requirements for further details.
It is often a stipulation of caravan park rules that non-statutory static caravan holiday home safety testing be carried out. Park rules often go above and beyond the standard legal requirements. For example, a gas test may not be required under legal regulations for owners not letting out their caravan but the park rules may insist this test is carried out anyway.
For the park to maintain one set of safety standards across all caravans is good practice. After all, the safety of one caravan will have a direct effect on all the other caravans sited around it.
Similar to park rules, it is often in the terms and conditions of static caravan holiday home insurance policies that gas and electrical safety tests are up to date and valid. This will be detailed in the small print of the insurance policy which must be read carefully.
Static Caravan Insurance rules can go above and beyond the legal requirements, for example a electric test may not be required under legal regulations but the caravan insurance may be invalidated without it, this is an area where static caravan owners could get caught out when needing to make a claim.
