Static Caravan Fire Extinguisher Service
Static Caravans built to EN1647 and BS3632 (the manufacturer build standards for static caravans) should contain at least one 1kg minimum capacity dry powder fire extinguisher. All fire extinguishers must be manufactured in accordance with BS EN3 – a British Standard for portable fire extinguishers.
A powder extinguisher should never be used on a pan of fat or oil, for this purpose and minor cooking fires we recommend all caravans are fitted with a fire blanket, in addition to the extinguisher. This is also a requirement of EN1647(11.2).
Frequency of Static Caravan Fire Extinguisher Service
BS5306-3 states fire extinguishers should have a basic inspection every 12 months. Caravan parks often provide a service whereby everyone’s extinguishers are tested at the same time to save on individual costs.
Powder fire extinguishers must be tested by discharge every five years. It may be more cost effective to replace your fire extinguisher for static caravan (every 5yrs) when it is due an extended service or needs a refill after it has been used.
What is Included on a fire extinguisher service?
The inspector will check:
- The extinguisher is in date
- It is in visibly good condition
- The weight and/or pressure is correct
- The pin works
- The instructions on the extinguisher are legible
- Update the maintenance/service label
Smoke and CO alarms
We recommend you have at least 2 smoke and 2 CO alarms in your static caravan, they should be fitted in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions which will state the height, locations and number of alarms required. CO alarms should be tested with CO gas at the same time as your gas test, there is space on our gas test form to allow for a full CO alarm test.
